I don't have an ECM diagnostic tool, but I see a lot of these 16 pin ECM modules and I've always been able to just check for 24v at the various pins at the motor. Here is the pin out Any ways, so I had good line voltage and 24v to all the Necessary pins, the fan speed control board is reviving and out putting 24v at all the correct points, so I condemned the module. Usually I'd check the motor too, but our policy on ECMs is to replace both together when ever they are under warranty, which this was.

So I went back today and replaced the motor and nothing. I double checked the fan control board (trane part c800796p01) and i still didn't see anything wrong, but since I couldn't see anything else it could be, I tested the system with a new control I had on the truck. Still nothing. I don't know what else to try. New motor and module, good 220v line to the motor and 24v, going in and coming out of the fan control. I was getting good readings out of the back of the 16pin connector while the it was plugged into the motor, but maybe I have a bad connection at one of the pins?

Another question may be, was the replacement module programmed properly or even at all? I have had a few in the past that they were OEM out of the box but were not programmed properly at the factory and had to get a replacement for that replacement. Some distributors are now able to flash the module on-site, sometimes when they do this, they do not do it correctly or mix up programs. Just my thoughts. That basic ECM drive board if it is properly energized with 24v and a jumper across R and G should ramp that motor to the programmed constant fan speed.

Will say to invest in a Zebra or GenTeq TecMate or TecInspect ECM tool. May only use them a few times a year or once in your career, but for the price, they do help take some guess work out of things.
