Buyers Guide. When mounting, planter attachments require a specific amount of clearance.

This clearance requirement is sometimes referred to as the “window.” To open your window and eliminate the guesswork from selecting planter attachments, Yetter Farm Equipment developed this comprehensive Buyer's Guide. Locate the manufacturer and model number of your planter in the list below to find a complete list of compatible Yetter products. Remember to review your planter's clearance requirements before adding or substituting any planter attachment. Also, make sure you have the equipment you need to make the attachment fit. In some cases, setback kits and extension bars are necessary, regardless of your equipment and conditions.

We have grown oil sunflowers for 7 years and have always solid seeded them but think we might be able to do a better job if we do them with a planter. Going to go look at an 8 row 7000 planter. Owner says its been rebuilt 2 seasons ago (with not many acres on it since ). Says it has Precison finger mechanisms in it. What does that mean?

I would like markers because we may be pulling it with an open cab tractor with no GPS. The markers don't work on this planter. He says they were built poorly. Is there much to the marker system? Few hydraulic lines, cylinders and a sequencing valve, right? Says the boxes hold 2 bags each. Is that the big boxes or the small ones?

If we want to plant sunflowers and corn with the planter, is there anything we need to change in the planter (besides the transmission for plant population ) to switch between the 2 crops? How about to plant soybeans? Thanks in advance Posted 11/5/2012 13:01 (#2679665 - in reply to #2679642) Subject: Re: JD 7000 planter questions Black Hawk County, IA Means Precision Planting brand meters, from Greg Saunder's former brand in IL. Yes, pretty simple system.

Standard boxes hold 1.6 bu., so I'd say you have those. Large boxes hold 3 bu.

Can't tell you much about sunflowers other than they're yellow. Yes you will need different meters to plant soybeans. J Posted 11/5/2012 13:54 (#2679736 - in reply to #2679642) Subject: RE: JD 7000 planter questions Pretty simple, but solid planter.

The Precision planting plates are a good thing. Replace the brushes every few years. They lose their stiffness after a few years. Only a few bucks apiece.

Should be available at any JD dealer, or online from several suppliers. The markers are pretty simple. Does it not lift at all, or just doesn't cycle correctly? Liquid or Dry fertilizer? Check the clutch that disengages the drive system when it lifts.

The cam gets worn after a time and wont' disengage well. Check that the overrun clutches on drive wheels are free. Other than that, not a whole lot to go wrong with them. To plant soybeans, you will need soybean cups.

These are different meters installed in the bottom of the box. The stock boxes hold quite a bit. I have to refill fertilizer before seed. Usually about 2 - 1.

Posted 11/5/2012 14:13 (#2679757 - in reply to #2679736) Subject: RE: JD 7000 planter questions For smaller oil sunflowers, as in size 3 and 4, you will need the sunflower finger, they are smaller than the corn finger. The corn finger will plant larger size 3's and 2's, and confections. The easiest way to change these is to get the hub with the fingers installed, makes it a quick switch. The 7000 is a very good planter, make sure the markers are complete, if they are not, then look for a better planter. Very expensive to start fixing the markers.

The fact the seller does not have them functioning, is a bad sign of other things poorly maintained. There should be a lot of these for sale, you have all winter to look. He just felt with the GPS available now, was not worth it to fix the markers. I'm in no rush.

This planter is 20 miles from me rather than 120 like most every other planter will be from me. That's why this one is at worth taking a look. On my 6row, the actuator has broken the mounting plaate several times and has been rewelded. When broken the actuator moves in the tube rather that lifting the marker arm correctly. Easy to identify, cylinders visible on the marker arms would have a sequencing valve, no visible marker arm lift cylinders, then it is the hidden actator style. Must have stolen this idea from 1 of the companies that always innovate before John Deere.

This could affect the marker set up and a few other things you need to check out. Posted 11/5/2012 17:50 (#2679980 - in reply to #2679642) Subject: Re: JD 7000 planter questions Central PA If you set those markers up by the Operators Manual, they will work.

I think all the 7000 planters had the cylinder in the frame. On the conservation 7000 planters you may have been able to get external cylinders.

Sometimes the mounting plate breaks on the cylinder, it can be welded and reinforced. The notched coulters on markers are a bit better than the solids Posted 11/5/2012 19:08 (#2680090 - in reply to #2679665) Subject: Re: JD 7000 planter questions If it is wide rows Ihave set of markers in good shape. When I ran it I noticed I couldn't see the markers cut very well but may be different in conventional till.

Each of his boxes hold about 1 and a half bags. Can't tell you much about any fertilizer attachments for it.

No auto steer here. If ya got flat fields a light bar would be better than markers in my opinion. The bean cups are so poor at metering, I went to kinze brush meters, borrowed or bought and they do very well. Need parts occasionally, like brushes, but they aren't expensive.

Just they are adjustable enough to fit each planter. 04 kia sorento repair manual. Lots of marker parts can be had from Shoup also. Or maybe the end sections need to be changed which is easy. On a little planter, like 4, 6, or 8 row it wouldn't be hard to lash a pole to the front of the tractor with chain drops set to be over the last row planted and plant accurate guess rows. Might be annoying in fence corners banging on the posts or the first pass banging on fence posts. I don't know about planting sunflowers with the corn finger meters.

Might work, might not. The manual probably has suggestions but I'm lazy today. I have found it very useful to acquire the op manual before the equipment, then by reading that manual I generally know MORE than the seller and can tell a lot more about the condition and usefulness of the equipment. I notilled with my 7000 with straight front coulters an Dawn Trash Whippers very successfully, no other modifications. Jump to page: Now viewing page 1 50 messages per page Jump to forum:.
