1. Empco Fire Study Guide

Hey everyone, I currently am putting myself through an academy, doing fine there. I just took my EMPCO and did not pass it for second time. Now I have to wait a year. I ran out of time and still had about 20 questions left on the recent test. Guessed on them, ended up not passing. Which obviously sucks big time.

Honestly, I thought the EMPCO wouldn't be a big deal as I got an A on the MCOLES reading and writing. Obviously, I was wrong. ​​​​​ I've been looking around for departments in Michigan that do not require EMPCO. Anyone know of any? Most seem to require it.

Only found a few that do not. ​​​​​ ​​​I just want to push though the Academy, and try and get hired on somewhere. Keeping my head up, and not giving up.

As you presumably already know, if you miss the passing score on that test (for most agencies that score is 70%), you aren't told how far off you were (I think it would be better if they were to let every taker of their test know exactly where he stands, but Empco says 'Any score of 69.99% and below will read as FAIL only. Empco does not provide a percentage score if the minimum is not reached.' - I think the all-caps on 'fail' is rude) - if you think you were close enough that some brushing up on written expression and reading comprehension might get you past the mark, you might look at - best of luck to you, Green35.
